Open call for comics!
The theme we have chosen for the 9th issue of OHOHOzine is Cyberpunk! ...and other types of punk.
As the modern curse says: "may you live in interesting times". By all accounts, the world is slowly sliding into some kind of dystopia, so we are very interested in where you think we will end up.
We are looking for a variety of stories: personal and small, essayistic and philosophical, epic and adventuristic. The only thing that matters is that they are set in a cyberpunk dystopia.
Cyberpunk originated as a subgenre of science fiction and one of its main characteristics is the dominance of technology but a low standard of living in a dystopian future. Everything is in disarray, dirty and slightly post-apocalyptic while technology is at the level of nanotechnology, AI and mechanical body extensions. Some of the most popular titles are Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Robocop, etc.
But if this aesthetic doesn't impress you, we are also open to derivatives such as atompunk, nanopunk, dieselpunk, raypunk and the like.
And for a few of you, eternal optimists, feel free to tailor a story for us in the solarpunk future.
Please read the terms of the call carefully:
Number of pages: 1-8
We are ok with more pages if you feel so inspired, but you will need to really impress the editorial team for it to make it into the issue!
Color: black and white or grayscale. (We strongly suggest you do black and white (b/w)! In case you do go gray scale please be mindful of differences in tones. We have had problems in past issues of print being darker than expected.)
Comics must be in dimensions: 17,6 x 25 cm (B5). With included bleed (3mm) it’s 18,2 x 25,6 cm. Resolution: 300 dpi minimum. Format: JPEG. DON’T SEND PDF-s.
Please ensure that the comic has a title and the author's name on the first page. We are open to alternatives, but it is important that it is clear within the comic what the comic is called and who wrote/drawn it.
We do not accept work done by AI.
In case you are drawing the comic by hand, the pages have to be scanned in properly. Not photographed by phone.
Language: primarily Croatian or any regional language such as Serbian or Bosnian etc. You can send an English version of your comic if you are not from the regions mentioned above
In case the comic is written in some other alphabet, such as Cyrillic, please send us the translation in an editable text document.
Please do not publish the comic you submit to this open call in any other publications or on the internet until you know if it’s gonna be part of OHOHOzin.
DEADLINE is: March 30th 2027.
After the deadline you will be contacted by the editorial team about whether your work has made the cut.
Selected works will be published in OHOHO zin #9 and will also be part of an exhibition in the OHOHO festival (Siva gallery, Medika)
OHOHO zin is a magazine that showcases alternative and indie comics, so that kind of style will be given priority during the selection process. You can find samples of this in our past issues.
Since the zine is published in both Croatian and English you will be contacted about the Croatian translation of your work. The editorial team can help with the translation and the lettering but we strongly encourage the original author to write the text in themselves.

The editorial work at OHOHOzine, as well as designing and preparing each issue for print is voluntary. Money made from the purchase or donation of the zine goes directly into print, be it for the current issue or the next one.
Authors whose work gets selected for publication receive:
One authors copy of OHOHOzine
They get to participate in group exhibitions that consist of a selection of comic pages from the current issue.
They can potentially participate in OHOHOzine promotions
Promotion on the OHOHO festival socials.

A bit about OHOHOzin:
OHOHOzin's publication started in 2019. during the OHOHO festival of comics and street art.
It is an alternative comic that hosts many regional comic authors through open call that every year has a different theme.
