The Festival of Alternative Theatrical Expression – FAKI, taking place from May 25 to May 31, 2026 in Zagreb, marks its 29th edition this year under the theme 𝐏𝐨𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞. At a time dominated by the imperatives of productivity, success, and continuous growth, FAKI opens a space to reflect on failure as an artistic strategy, a political stance, and a liberating collective experience.
Through a series of free performances, shows, and discussions, artists from diverse contexts explore how failure can become a tool of resistance against norms that define value, visibility, and recognition—from personal narratives to broader social, economic, and cultural structures that shape our possibilities for action.
The programme takes place across several venues in Zagreb (Filmski studio Medika, Gallery Siva, Pogon Jedinstvo – small hall, Grof Melin bar, Garaža Kamba), with a focus on performances that intertwine personal and collective experience, artistic research, and political awareness.
FAKI is a project of the Autonomous Cultural Centre Attack, founded in 1998 as a response to the dominance of elitism and commercialization in institutional culture, with the aim of supporting independent, avant-garde, and experimental performing practices. Today, more than ever, it calls for a rethinking of our relationship to ourselves, to others, and to the society we live in.
