Two years after our humble start on the Zagreb scene we’re back with another birthday celebration, this time on a mission to present our audience with a long-needed figure: one of the freshest, most modern, and respected faces of advanced club music – Air Max ’97.
Dutch-born, New Zealand-raised, and currently London-based, Air Max ’97 Music is a singular artist in the global electronic music landscape. He is a producer who is constantly reinvigorating our love for contemporary dance electronica – which he has made a profound, indelible mark on throughout the roughly-five years of his career: blending grime, Jersey club, and other adjacent hyper-localised genres in a thick collage of abstract bass madness through sublime experimentation and thought-provoking sound treatment. His affect-focused productions are rich with atmosphere, texture and percussive impact – and are unlike anything else out there.
Building on momentum gained in 2019 with acclaimed EPs on his own Decisions imprint – unarguably one of the most formidable labels operating in the no-genre zone – and Batu_music’s famed Timedance label, his 2020 so far begins with the debut of A2A: Air Max ‘97’s collaborative project with Aya (fka LOFT) on Local Action.
A magnetic presence as a DJ, Air Max ‘97 forges sonic trips alive with energy and dynamism. His sets contrast dark and light, hypnotism and rupture, made all the more special with the inclusion of countless unreleased tracks, edits and blends.
Truly no words can properly describe the poetic balance of intense immediacy and provoking idiosyncraticity in Air Max ’97’s strikingly innovative style – and we are beyond delighted to inaugurate this event as our first collaboration with Belgrade’s integral SUTRA / СУТРА crew – forming a regional relationship of rave collectives by working closely together in forming a new standard for global artists visiting the Balkans for a tour and, hopefully, elevating the clubbing quality of the Yugosphere.
Supporting Air Max are a pack of extraordinary local and regional DJs – our head honcho Oberön is unlatching the evening with a new musical face, followed by lilacube – a close friend of ours and an inspirational figure on the Zagreb scene – and NinaBelle – Slovenia’s foremost creator of merciless, affecting club music (as part of the internationally-acclaimed duo Warrego Valles) and one of the best DJs we’ve heard.
